By moving your army just outside the edge of a region and entering ambush stance you can get the AI to attack more recklessly and occupy settlements which can be advantageous as occupying a settlement denies them further movement, essentially allowing you to trap them in damaged settlements. If your army is visible the AI is less likely to occupy the settlement, preferring to sack or raze instead.When your army is outside of the region it’s movement is taken into consideration, this can be negated by placing your army in ambush stance.This means an army incapable of reaching a settlement can prevent AI attacking it just by entering the settlements region.When your army is in the same region as a settlement, the AI does not take into account your distance from the settlement when deciding whether or not to attack it.AI seems to be aware of army presence in regions when considering whether or not to attack a settlement within movement range, regardless of whether or not your army is visible / in ambush stance.These are some notes I took I think last November on AI being fucky: Think we missed one?
